submit a lecture proposal

In this form, you will find information about The Explorers Club Public Lecture Series. The information below includes fields that must be filled out by the lecturer. PLEASE NOTE: this is a proposal form and does not guarantee that the lecture described here will be approved. The Public Lectures Committee does it's best to curate a diverse slate of lectures given content and scheduling constraints. Even if we unable to schedule you for the time being, we may still be interested in your proposal, and you are more than welcome to propose a talk again in the future.

About The Explorers Club

The Explorers Club is an international multidisciplinary professional society dedicated to the advancement of field research and the ideal that it is vital to continue scientific exploration. Since its inception in 1904, the Club has served as a meeting point and unifying force for explorers and scientists worldwide. The club's members have accomplished many illustrious firsts, including first to the North Pole, first to the South Pole, first to the summit of Mount Everest, first to the deepest point in the ocean, and first to the surface of the moon. As our members continue to push the boundaries, The Explorers Club actively encourages public interest in exploration and the sciences through its century-old public lectures program, publications, travel program, and other events.

Location

The Explorers Club is located at 46 East 70th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The closest subway is the 68th Street–Hunter College stop on the 6 line. Lectures are given in our historic Clark Lecture Hall, and unless otherwise requested, streamed live on our Facebook and YouTube Channel.

Run of Show

Check-in begins at HQ at 6:00 PM. There is a beer, wine and small bites reception in our library from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. The lectures begin at 7pm and usually run for 1 hour. A Q&A session lasts up to 30 minutes. Lectures tend to finish up by 8:15 - 8:30 PM. We ask that your talk last approximately 45-50 minutes. The audience includes Club Members, professionals in the field, and a sophisticated New York public who appreciate a compelling, rehearsed lecture with A/V, video clips, maps, humor and thoughtful story-telling.

Audio/Visual

Our A/V specialist Alex Serrano and TEC Programming Coordinator Felix Freeland will handle all equipment setup and pre-lecture rehearsals for the Club.

Live Streaming

Lectures at The Explorers Club are live streamed on our website, Facebook and YouTube pages, to engage our worldwide Membership, as well as the interested public. We encourage you to share the stream online, and you are also welcome to embed the streams themselves on personal or professionally affiliated pages, etc.

Publicity

The Club emails our members plus a list of the interested general public, and also produces promotional content on social media. Please share relevant social media handles below as desired, and also let us know if you have specific member(s) of the press you know would like to attend for potential coverage by emailing Programming Coordinator Felix Freeland at ffreeland@explorers.org.

Please Note:

The Explorers Club is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and the Monday Night Lecture Series cannot be used for explicit fundraising or sales. We occasionally allow a speaker to sell their book before and after the lecture, but the speaker is then responsible for bringing their own bookseller and payment methods.

Please describe a range of dates you would be able to host your lecture.
