Join The Explorers Club on Monday, June 26th for a screening of Carol Seiler Ryan’s new film, Earth: An Animated Allegory.
Carol’s new art piece, Earth: An Animated Allegory, is a video that delves into the destructive forces of Climate Change. It imagines a surreal world, a place of imagined safety and complacence, that by degree, destroys itself and its inhabitants. It allows the viewer to be drawn toward a future of unimaginable horror that awaits us should we not act with all haste to follow the directives of scientists urgently.
The film manipulates the light spectrum as a fluid medium much as one might use paint, and the solid design that determines every frame. Carol’s three decades as an artist designing projected media for corporations led her to the 6+ years it took to create this unique piece. It comprises over 10,000 individual paintings and drawings. The running time is 15 minutes.
Carol utilized the input of several well-known and active Earth Scientists from Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory who reinforced that the sequence and projected outcomes depicted are in large part accurate. Carol and the piece will be introduced by Klaus H. Jacob, Ph.D., a geophysicist who has worked at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory for over 50 years.
This will be an in-person lecture at Explorers Club Headquarters, and we are opening a number of tickets to guests.
In-person tickets are $15 for Members, and $30 for the General Public.
Check-in will begin at 6:00 pm, with a beer and wine reception from 6:00 – 7:00 pm
Carol Seiler Ryan
Carol Seiler Ryan is a lifelong artist who first recognized art as her calling after seeing a neighbor, a sign painter, apply gold leaf on the side of a truck at six years old.
She faced discrimination as a young woman in the art and education world, but eventually came to work evenings in the art department of a Madison Avenue ad agency.
They started producing projected media and Carol worked in the business during the inception of what was to become
a cutting-edge industry, one that would allow her to experiment with design in another medium – light! For over 30 years as a freelance designer, Carol was hired by NYC producers to design major multi-media projects.
