POSTPONED – Given the current COVID situation in New York City and out of an abundance of caution, tonight’s lecture with the One Ocean Expedition has been postponed – and headquarters remains closed. With 5 creeks, 4 rivers, 3 major bays, and the Atlantic ocean bordering to the south, New York City occupies a unique and important geographical setting. If ever in the city, whether you walk the Brooklyn Bridge, visit Battery park, or take a ferry, you can expect to see various watercrafts, like kayaks, barges, sailboats, jet skis, or Yachts, all around you. But, despite how populated our waterways are with boats of kinds, you may be surprised to see a 107-year-old 322-foot-long Norwegian Tall ship grace the waters of New York bay.
As a part of the One Oceans Expedition, a project aimed at uniting humanity against climate change, Norwegian Tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl will be coming to New York City for a short stop in its 20 month circumnavigation journey, which will cover more than 55,000 nautical miles and visit more than 36 ports world wide. A vessel that invites and in fact demands participants to work together, Statsraad Lehmkuhl represents the global need to unify for a sustainable future. Join the ships Captain, Jens Joachim Hiorth, to learn about how One Oceans Expedition is creating attention and sharing knowledge about the ocean’s crucial role for a sustainable future in a global perspective.
Streaming live here on explorers.org, our YouTube Channel, and our Facebook Live — Monday, December 20th at 7:00 pm ET.
