The fourth installment of The Explorers 50 Speaker Series, supported by Rolex, returns on Wednesday, November 16th at 7pm with “Guardians”. This episode brings together experts from around the world who have expanded the very definition of conservation. The panel discussion will be moderated by EC 50 Chair Joe Rohde and will discuss the meticulous and persistent efforts of explorers to create new methods of discovery when faced with complex issues.

Cassandra Brooks
Cassandra’s drive to protect the ocean has taken her to all seven continents, though Antarctica holds her heart. She holds advanced degrees in Marine Science, Science Communication, and Environment and Resources, having completed her PhD at Stanford University. She’s worked in the lab, underwater, and at sea – including five research expeditions to Antarctica. Cassandra was a core member of The Last Ocean, a grand-scale media project focused on protecting the Ross Sea. Her work helped drive the adoption of the world’s largest marine protected area in the Ross Sea, Antarctica, one of the healthiest marine ecosystems left on Earth. Currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Boulder, she continues her engaged scholarship and seeks to empower the next generations of environmental leaders.
Aimee Morgana
Aimee Morgana is an interspecies communication researcher, avian behavior expert, artist, and teacher. She works with her partner and friend, the African gray parrot, N’Kisi, who she taught to communicate using human words. Aimee began working with parrots in 1985, and had two wonderful parrot teachers before N’Kisi, who showed her what they were capable of. Aimee created her own teaching methods, and encourages N’Kisi to express himself. She founded the N’Kisi Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to this research. Aimee also serves on the college faculty of the School of Visual Arts, and is an elected fellow of Wings Worldquest explorers. Her work with N’Kisi has been published in The Journal of Scientific Exploration and The Encyclopedia of Human-Animal Relationships. She has also presented her work in lectures, including The American Museum of Natural History. Her work with N’Kisi was featured in the award-winning Animal Planet television special, Jane Goodall’s When Animals Talk.
Daniel C. Taylor
Daniel c. Taylor takes an idea that baffles others to reality. His exploration includes first ascents, pioneering two rivers, designing extraordinary buildings, generating electricity and growing the results of his explorations. He has explored design in order to create national parks where people protect nature; 100 million acres so far. Taylor designed an accredited university to learn sustainable and inclusive living that helped to emerge holistic lives around the world. His public recognition includes being knighted by king of Nepal, an honorary professor of quantitative ecology at Chinese academy of sciences, order of golden arc from the Netherlands, and both masters and doctoral degrees from Harvard university.
