Sea Otters Face the Human Threat
Fewer than 3,000 southern sea otters remain on the planet, and the dramatic story of their struggle to survive reveals as much about the troubled relationship between humans and nature as it does about this iconic creature. Despite more than 40 years of legal protection under the Endangered Species Act, it is not only sea otters that are threatened: protections for wildlife under the Act are not assured going into the future. Survival of the southern sea otter and other vital species hangs in the balance.
Kim Steinhardt will explore the fascinating life of the sea otter, current threats, and the fast-evolving legal and policy side of the story based on thousands of hours in the field observing these extraordinary animals. Part art, part science, part law, his inspiring signature photo-journeys have earned him recognition as a “keen observer, a wonderful storyteller, and a remarkable photographer.”
