Head to the field to explore the beauty and significance of Shinnecock Bay, with special guest “Her Deepness” Dr. Sylvia Earle, who will kick off the day with a public ribbon cutting to commemorate the official inauguration of the Shinnecock Bay Hope Spot. The Stony Brook University Marine Station will be open for tours, and Sylvia Earle will headline an event at 4 pm that will include the Shinnecock Indian Nation, scientists from Stony Brook University, and a display of new ocean technology innovations moderated by Schmidt Marine Technologies.

From this point forward (May 30, 2023) – passport tickets do not include access to the Friday Morning Field Trip to Shinnecock Bay. Those boats are now full and fully sold out. Passport tickets do still include access to all other events during World Oceans Week 2023, including the Friday afternoon program at Duke Lecture Hall.
WHERE: Stony Brook Southampton Marine Laboratory (Specific Address disclosed upon registration)
ATTIRE: Make sure you prepare for a day in the sun! Participants should be prepared for variable weather and bring layers, sunscreen, a hat, and their own water bottle. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory to board the charter. (note that the boat has partial cover from the sun). Tickets are limited to 2 per party.
Explore Shinnecock Bay aboard one of Stony Brook University’s Research Vessels! During the excursion, attendees will view local wildlife, learn about how science-based restoration has contributed to the bay’s remarkable recovery, and see new ocean-observing technologies in action. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the research facilities at the Stony Brook Southampton Marine Laboratory. Lunch is included in the registration fee. All participants must be at least 18 years of age.

The Explorers Club and the Institute for Ocean Conservation Science will host Sylvia Earle, members of the Shinnecock Indian Nation, Stony Brook University scientists, and Schmidt Marine Technology Partners for an exciting event to highlight the significance of Shinnecock Bay and discuss the role that ocean technology plays in conserving our world’s waters. Doors will open at 3 pm for attendees to mingle and meet additional supporters of the Hope Spot.
