Over the course of 2023 Thomas Rowell crawled on the forest floor in Misiones Argentina while being feasted upon by innumerable insects. Join The Explorers Club on Monday, June 24th, to hear why he was setting camera traps for the keystone species in this biodiversity hotspot, and why it matters to you.
Misiones province, known for the iconic Iguazu Falls, has 1% of Argentina’s total land yet it holds an estimated 52% of the country’s biodiversity. Jaguar, ocelot, tapir and bush dog are among the species that navigate the entirety of the province of Misiones to survive. Yet very little of what remains of their forest is protected.
Carrying Explorers Club Flag #226, Thomas Rowell will take us on a hike through the dense forest of Misiones (without the bugs). This immersive presentation features visual storytelling from his time with the scientists, park guards and ministry officials dedicated to conserving this incredible place and the animals that share it. Follow Thomas as he documents anti-poaching patrols, deploys custom built camera traps and explores an alternative photographic technique using local plants and rainwater.
This in-person event at the Explorers Club Headquarters will include an audience Q&A.
Streaming live here on explorers.org, our YouTube Channel, and our Facebook Live — Monday, June 24th at 7:00 pm ET.
