New Discoveries from the Lost Wrecks of Ciutadella’s Old Harbor
Dispatches from the Field, a new digital program designed to bring The Explorers Club community closer—wherever you are.
Each session kicks off with a 10-minute talk from a Featured Speaker, streamed live to the public on explorers.org and our YouTube channel.
This will be followed by Campfire sessions—intimate, Members-Only breakout groups where you can connect, share ideas, and build relationships.
This edition features Trevor Wallace, FN’13, to present “Menorca Shipwreck Project 2025: New Discoveries from the Lost Wrecks of Ciutadella’s Old Harbor:”
Trevor will share an inside look at the third annual campaign of the Menorca Shipwreck Project, an Explorers Club Flag Expedition where Club members work alongside local archaeologists to uncover the lost wrecks of Ciutadella’s old harbor on the western coast of Menorca. In 2024, the team discovered two 13th-century shipwrecks stacked one atop the other, a remarkable find recently featured in his TEDx talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX2aJQUL6Zk
With most archival records destroyed during attacks by the corsair Barbarossa (“Red Beard”) and other Ottoman forces, this underwater “graveyard of ships” remains a mystery. Trevor will reveal new, not-yet-public discoveries from the 2025 season, outline plans for the 2026 campaign, and highlight how more than 40 field school participants—over half of them Explorers Club members—are helping to rewrite the maritime history of the western Mediterranean.
