Dispatches from the Field: LIVE from Orbit with Dr. Jessica Meir

On June 24th, Dispatches from the Field leaves Earth.

Welcome to an extraordinary edition of Dispatches from the Field — The Explorers Club’s signature global program designed to transcend geographical boundaries, connect our international chapters, and forge deep bonds across our global community. For this special broadcast, we are expanding our reach past terrestrial limits to connect live with Dr. Jessica Meir — NASA astronaut, marine biologist, and a proud member of The Explorers Club.

We are checking in directly with Dr. Meir during her long-duration mission in low Earth orbit, where she will join us live from the International Space Station. This 20-minute window — precisely timed with the station’s satellite communication passes, at 11:20 AM ET — offers a rare look at a working scientist operating at the edge of human capability. Rather than just discussing routine operations, Dr. Meir will dive into the core philosophy of discovery, the extreme limits of human performance, and how this unique vantage point reshapes our understanding of modern exploration.

In the true spirit of Dispatches, this session gathers our global membership alongside our fellow astronauts and aerospace members into a single virtual assembly. Together, we will bridge the gap between extreme fieldwork on Earth and operations in the vacuum of space. We will explore how her foundational roots as a field biologist in Antarctica prepared her for the isolation of spaceflight, and even delve into a creative thought experiment: how we might biologically redesign the human body for the future of long-duration spaceflight.

Use the form below to register. Details on joining the call will follow on Monday, June 22nd in email. Note: this live event is members-only, and only active members will be permitted into the call. A recorded version of the interview will be published after the event.

Jessica U. Meir, a first generation American born to Israeli and Swedish immigrants, was selected by NASA in 2013.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Brown University, a Master of Science in Space Studies from the International Space University, and a Doctorate in Marine Biology from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UCSD).  From 2000 to 2003, Dr. Meir worked for Lockheed Martin’s Human Research Facility, supporting human physiology research.  During this time, she also participated in research flights on NASA’s reduced gravity aircraft and served as an aquanaut in an underwater habitat for NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations (NEEMO).  Prior to becoming an astronaut, her career as a scientist focused on the physiology of animals in extreme environments.  Meir served as flight engineer on the International Space Station for Expedition 61 and 62, and participated in the first all-female spacewalks. A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the company’s Dragon spacecraft launched on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 mission to the International Space Station with NASA astronauts Jessica Meir, Jack Hathaway, ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Sophie Adenot, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev onboard, Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Meir will serve as Commander for NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 mission, to join Expeditions 74 and 75 on the International Space Station.
