Join Explorers Club 50 honoree and National Geographic Adventurer of the Year Gregg Treinish and learn about the intersection of exploration, citizen science, and the future of conservation efforts.

Gregg will share what can happen when we harness the passion of the outdoor community to help tackle some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges and ways fellow adventurers and explorers can get involved. Adventure Scientists, the conservation nonprofit Gregg founded in 2011, is built on the idea that adventurers—those who traverse the most remote and rugged parts of the planet—are uniquely positioned to gather critical data that would otherwise be inaccessible. From tracking illegal timber through DNA analysis, to monitoring microplastics in oceans and rivers, to collecting biodiversity data in partnership with California’s 30×30 initiative, Gregg’s talk will highlight stories from his own adventures as well as stories from the field with Adventure Scientists.

This in-person event at the Explorers Club Headquarters will include an audience Q&A.

Streaming live here on explorers.org, our YouTube Channel, and our Facebook Live — Monday, January 6th at 7:00 pm ET.

Speakers

Gregg Treinish

Gregg founded Adventure Scientists in 2011 based on his passion for exploration, scientific discovery and galvanizing “the choir” to more directly participate in conservation.

National Geographic named Gregg Treinish “Adventurer of the Year” in 2008 when he and a friend completed a 7,800-mile trek along the spine of the Andes mountain range, and he has participated in multiple ecologically focused expeditions around the world. His field work has included projects focused on wolverine, lynx, bears, owls, sturgeon, and more. Gregg holds a biology degree from Montana State University and a sociology degree from CU-Boulder.

In 2015 he was named a DRK Foundation social entrepreneur and one of Men’s Journal’s “Most Adventurous Men.” In 2017, Gregg was named an Ashoka Fellow, and in 2020, a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader. He was named to the Explorer’s Club 50 and the Hatch 100 in 2023.
