Over the course of six and half years, Briton Pete Casey undertook the record breaking expedition of crossing South America by foot, up the Amazon River from its mouth on the Atlantic, up to its source in the Andes, and down to the Pacific Ocean. Join The Explorers Club on Monday, May 13th, to hear about his incredible journey.
Pete Casey will be telling the story of how, defying all the odds, he went from building houses in England to completing the epic, record-breaking crossing of South America on foot and swimming, following the mighty Amazon up river from its mouth on the Atlantic coast of Brazil to its most distant source of uninterrupted flow high In the Peruvian Andes and then down to the Pacific Ocean. To achieve his goal, he sold his home and invested every cent in his dream. He overcame a host of obstacles and setbacks including COVID lockdowns, floods, financial, logistical, health and guide issues all without leaving the trail over the course of 6.5 years.
The visit and presentation of Pete Casey at The Explorers Club is sponsored by Piotr Chmielinski and the Canoandes. Piotr Chmielinski, who originally comes from Poland, is the first man who paddled the entire length of the Amazon River in 1985-86, and who also supported Pete’s expedition. Because these two Amazon expeditions connected British and Polish explorers, this presentation is a collaboration of the Explorers Club as well as the Polish and UK Consulates.
This in-person event at the Explorers Club Headquarters will include an audience Q&A.
