Join The Explorers Club on Friday, October 11th, for an exclusive screening of the new documentary Alcohol in Space.
Alcohol in Space follows the stories of three unique space inventors. Only they’re not designing rockets and spacesuits, they’re working to launch a much older industry into the next frontier. This includes Maison Mumm in their quest to create a microgravity champagne bottle, Ardbeg aging their Scottish Whisky for over two years on the space station, and Ninkasi Brewing who launched yeast to space, hoping to use the organism to create a potent brew for the masses.
According to documentary filmmaker Sam Burbank, “I read Chris Carberry’s book Alcohol in Space and was hooked. We all know about NASA and Lockheed, these household names of space exploration. But there are hundreds of smaller groups preparing to make this adventure richer, more fun, and more relatable. It’s a bumpy ride with some amazing characters.”

This in-person screening at the Explorers Club Headquarters will include an panel.

Sam Burbank
Sam Burbank is an award-winning filmmaker with over two dozen productions to his credit. His work, focusing on space science, earth science, and exploration has allowed him to travel the world. Sam was selected as an engineer for the Mars Desert Research Station and has spent numerous field seasons at NASA’s Haughton Mars Project in the Canadian Arctic, with each stint becoming a television program for National Geographic. His series The New Race for Space broke the story of the X-Prize nationally, and the Wall Street Journal called his Discovery Channel special The Energy Revolution “In the truest sense of the word, progressive.” Sam contributes to the board of numerous space science groups and is the founder of Inverse Square Films.
Chris Carberry
Chris Carberry is the CEO and co-founder of Explore Mars, Inc. (Explore Mars), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit space advocacy organization. In this role, he oversees the annual Humans to Mars Summit, the largest annual conference focused on sending humans to Mars, and has spearheaded dozens of programs, projects, and outreach efforts. Before joining Explore Mars, Carberry served as Executive Director of The Mars Society. Carberry has presented oral (and written) testimony to both the United States Senate as well as the United States House of Representatives. He is also the author of over 100 articles that have appeared in publications around the world and has been featured in over 100 national and international television, radio programs, and podcasts. Carberry is the author of The Music of Space (2024) and Alcohol in Space: Past, Present, and Future (2019), which has been adapted into a documentary film being released in 2024. Carberry is co-editing a book called A Future Spacefaring Society for Springer to be released in 2025.
Richard Garriott
Richard Garriott currently serves as the President of the Explorers Club. He is a founding father of the videogame industry and the commercial spaceflight industry, a flown astronaut, and the first explorer to have explored pole to pole, orbited the Earth, and reached the deepest point in the Ocean.
Richard has been inducted into the computer gaming hall of fame and received the industry lifetime achievement award. He is credited with creating the now ubiquitous term “avatar” for one’s virtual self and the category of massively multiplayer games (MMORPGs). He authored the acclaimed Ultima Series and has built 3 leading gaming companies: Origin Systems (sold to Electronic Arts), Destination Games (sold to NCsoft) and Portalarium.
As a principal shaper of the commercial spaceflight industry, he cofounded Space Adventures, the only company to arrange space flights for private citizens and is the sixth private astronaut to live aboard the International Space Station. The son of a NASA astronaut, he became the first second-generation astronaut, served on NASA advisory Council, and has been a key leader in civilian and commercial space through institutions such as the Challenger Center for Science Education, the XPRIZE Foundation, and Space Adventures.
Richard is an avid explorer, having traveled around the globe from the jungles of the Amazon to the South Pole, the deep seas of the Titanic and hydrothermal vents to orbiting the earth aboard the International Space Station, and most recently to Challenger Deep, the deepest point in our Oceans.
His book, “Explore/Create,” chronicles his life from the early days of video gaming, through his spaceflight and to the present day.
Tiffany Vora
Dr. Tiffany Vora is a Board Member and Vice President for Innovation Partnerships at Explore Mars, a nonprofit advancing sustainable and inclusive exploration of Mars and beyond by the 2030s. A molecular biologist by training, Tiffany serves as a subject-matter expert in biotechnology and innovation and as an advisor to various international organizations and venture-capital firms, with a particular focus on innovation, space, food, medicine, advanced materials, sustainability, and longevity.
Previously, Tiffany designed and supported biology- and health-related research in Mars simulations in extreme environments with the Mars Society, including at the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station, where she spent a season on a remote island in the High Canadian Arctic. She was formerly an Instructor in the Bioengineering Department at Stanford University as well as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the American University in Cairo, which led her to investigate the ancient molecules of Egyptian mummies. As part of the Homeward Bound leadership development initiative for women in STEMM, Tiffany traveled to Antarctica in 2023 to showcase the intersection of sustainability, innovation, inclusion, and leadership for building a better future.
Currently, Tiffany is also honored to serve as a Nonresident Senior Fellow of the GeoTech Center at the Atlantic Council, Faculty and Singularity Fellow in Biotechnology at Singularity University, and Faculty at EY Tech University. She holds undergraduate degrees in Biology and Chemistry from New York University and a PhD in Molecular Biology from Princeton University, where her graduate research was funded by NASA. Her in-person presentations, workshops, and videos through Singularity University, TEDx, and other organizations have reached hundreds of thousands of people around the world.
