Patrick & Rosemarie Keough

Patrick and Rosemarie Keough FI ‘02 are internationally acclaimed photographers, authors, and explorers who have gone above and beyond in their service to The Explorers Club. They have supported the endeavors of hundreds of fellow explorers by providing them with a meeting point and platform to share their work.

Over the past three decades the husband-and-wife team have together explored and photographed many remote regions of the world, from Canada to the South Seas, Africa, Asia, and the two Polar regions. In the Nahanni wilderness of the Canadian subarctic, they hiked and canoed over 2,000 miles while taking photographs and recording karst features, and were the first to promote a major expansion of Nahanni National Park to encompass the unique karst landscape.

The Keoughs’ photography has been exclusively featured in two internationally acclaimed tomes and six best-selling books. Their work has been published in Smithsonian, Time, Forbes and other major publications. They have received a number of honors including the Royal Geographical Society’s Cherry Kearton Medal, as well as “World’s Best Nature Photographers” and “World’s Best Photography Book” at the Annual International Photography Awards.

In addition to actively recruiting and connecting Explorers Club members, for the past decade the Keoughs have hosted the annual Salt Spring Symposium in their British Columbia home, a four-day gathering of 50 explorers from a broad range of disciplines that come from all over the world. The purpose of the event is to share current research and foster discussion and cross-pollination, while developing lasting friendships with like-minded curious and passionate explorers.
