Capt. Kit S. Kapp FE’59
While stationed with the U.S. Army in Japan, Capt. Kapp began his interest in exploration and adventure by studying the local Ainu culture. During college, Kapp drove through Mexico to Costa Rica where he interviewed the presidents of Nicaragua and Guatemala. Buying his first sailboat led to a charter operation and sailing races in the Caribbean. Kapp later led nine Explorers Club Flag expeditions to Central and South America resulting in the publication of numerous books on his studies of the indigenous cultures. He also produced maps of the area and hydrographic survey charts in Honduras, Panama and Colombia.
