The Explorers Club Annual Dinner
The Club is renowned for its grand Explorers Club Annual Dinner (known as ECAD), dating back to the early twentieth century. Since the Club's founding in 1904, members have gathered annually in New York City to review the year in exploration, honor the world’s top explorers, and break bread together.
The Lowell Thomas Awards Dinner
The Club hosts a second grand dinner every year, the Lowell Thomas Awards Dinner, to honor men and women who have distinguished themselves in the field of exploration. The Lowell Thomas Awards Dinner is made possible by the generous sponsorship of Rolex Watch USA, Inc.
Documentary Film Festival
The Explorers Club Documentary Film Festival is a yearly celebration of the best documentaries on the subjects of Scientific Exploration, Field Research, and Wildlife and Conservation.
Thoresen Foundation Lecture on the History of Exploration
This new annual lectureship is designed to highlight recent scholarly work on exploration history as revealed through academic research in libraries and archives, and to make the results of such research available to a wide audience.
Photography Competition
The Explorers Club periodically assembles its panel of top professional photographers and editors to judge photographs from expeditions around the world.
Honors Awarded by the Club
The Club recognizes excellence through a series of awards, including the Explorers Club Medal, the Sweeney Medal, the Lowell Thomas Award, the Explorers Club Communication Award, the Quadrennial Medals, Honorary Membership, the Citation of Merit, and the designation of Patron of The Explorers Club.
Centennial Events
The year 2004 marked the centennial of the founding of our esteemed organization here in New York City. The Club celebrated with a series of special events.
