The Legacy Society

Since the founding of The Explorers Club in 1904, we have witnessed the determination, endurance, ingenuity, and triumphs of extraordinary people—our members. The achievements of men and women like our members have chronicled the most remarkable and enlightening period in the history of exploration!

The Explorers Club Legacy Society was established in 1999, to honor our traditions, strengthen our financial foundation, and help endow our expanding programs through cash gifts and bequests from our members. These funds are deposited in the Legacy Endowment Fund. They are managed by a trustee under strict New York State Laws and in compliance with our Endowment Investment Policy, which is structured to preserve the principal and to restrict the amount of annual disbursements.

Disbursements from the Legacy Endowment Fund are dedicated to sponsoring exploration, youth exploration grants, care and preservation of our priceless Archives (the James B. Ford Library, the Sir Edmund Hillary Map Room, and our unique collection of paintings, textiles, artifacts, and sculptures), and programs prescribed by our Board of Directors.

Membership in the Legacy Society is not limited to Explorers Club members; we welcome all adventurers who share our curiosity and desire to extend the limits of human knowledge and experience.

All Legacy Society members will be recognized, unless the donor wishes to remain anonymous. As a member of the Legacy Society, your name is listed in the Legacy Society Roster, which is published in the Club’s quarterly, The Explorers Journal, and may by listed in the Annual Report, The Explorers Club Annual Dinner Program, our website, and other publications. All members receive the 14k gold-filled Legacy Society lapel pin.

You can help fulfill our objectives and ensure the future of The Explorers Club by building our Endowment Fund through your membership in the Legacy Society.

"As long as there is an Explorers Club, your name will be listed as a member of the Legacy Society. "
