We are pleased to announce the 2011 awardees of The Explorers Club Youth Activity Fund and the Exploration Fund. The winners were chosen by committees of scientific professionals from a pool of almost 300 applicants. The Youth Activity Fund awards fulltime high school and undergraduate students while the Exploration Fund is reserved for fulltime graduate, post-graduate and post-doctoral students. Each applicant must propose a field project as a full-time student under the supervision of a bona-fide research supervisor. Advisors were required to write a reference endorsing the student’s proposed project, and providing supervision.
This year’s winners will be conducting research in areas such as Costa Rica, Israel, Papua New Guinea and Zimbabwe on a wide variety of topics ranging from baboon diet, disease consequences on livestock and ecotourism industries, and invasive species in a changing world. We are delighted to report that the next generation of explorers has great potential, and that all of these students are making a difference for the betterment of our planet.
