Description:

"Storytellers broaden our minds: engage, provoke, inspire, and ultimately, connect us." ~Robert Redford, President and Founder of the Sundance Film Festival

The Explorers Club invites you to its inaugural Polar Film Festival – to celebrate Antarctica Day (the anniversary of the signing of the Antarctic Treaty on December 1st, 1959) and showcase a diverse collection of feature films, documentaries and shorts about and from the Arctic and Antarctica. The films explore the history and grandeur of Earth’s polar regions as well as the environmental challenges they are facing.

In the long tradition of The Explorers Club, you will have an opportunity to rub elbows with polar explorers, filmmakers and special guests who will share their stories and imagery as we honor their passions and spotlight their life’s work.

Film line-up to be screened in the Clark Room include: “Diet of Souls,” “Terra Antarctica,” “Great White Silence,” “Ice People,” “Passage,” “North,” “People of a Feather,” and the acclaimed “Chasing Ice.”

Other films and videos will be continuously shown in the Members Lounge and in the Trophy Room throughout Saturday and Sunday; among them are: “Inuk,” “Imiqutailaq: Path of the Arctic Tern,” and “Mawson: Life and Death in Antarctica.”
Speakers/Presenters include: Aaju Peter, John Houston, Stefan Kindberg, Jon Bowermaster, Raymond Arnaudo, Ken McGoogan, and welcome remarks by Alan Nichols, the EC President.

Throughout the 3-day event, original paintings by Sheena Fraser McGoogan will be on display, and Look North Gallery will exhibit a selection of Inuit sculpture and art.
