Continuing our events at the G2 Gallery the Explorers Club is going to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of an epic expedition by Scott Lindgren.
In 2002 as part of an Explorers Club Flag expedition Scott achieved the first whitewater descent of the 19,700 ft.-deep Tsangpo Gorge in Tibet, known as the "Everest of Rivers." Lindgren and the expedition were honored with the club's Lowell Thomas Award in 2003. Considered one of the last great adventure prizes left on earth, and one that had defeated National Geographic in a fatal expedition in 1998, the waters of the Tsangpo Gorge presented Lindgren and his team of seven young international expedition kayakers with a raging torrent more than 25 times stronger than the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. In addition to hearing Scotts tales of huge white water, mutinous Tibetan porters and arrest by the Chinese you will also be treated to a screening of “Into the Tsangpo Gorge” a film co-written with Executive Producer and Explorers Club member Les Guthman. The film aired on NBC Sports in May 2002 and the expedition was the cover story in Outside magazine the following July. The film was honored by Men's Journal as one of the "20 Top Adventure Films of All Time." It has been an official selection of 15 international film festivals and an award winner at the 2002 Explorers Club Film Festival in New York."
