Exploration demands not only physical endurance, extensive training, and a comprehensive toolkit, but also a mental capacity to seamlessly enter environments vastly different from our own, be they natural, cultural, or psychological, to accomplish our goals. This year, The Lowell Thomas Awards will celebrate those explorers who have exhibited an extraordinary capacity to transcend traditional comfort zones to undertake expeditions that benefit us all.

Wandrian Adventures has planned a day trip to Governors Island for Saturday, October 13th, 2012 to coincide with the Lowell Thomas Dinner. Come enjoy this quiet oasis sitting in New York City harbor, just a short boat ride from the Financial District with views of the Statue of Liberty. There will be a private reception including lunch and transportation which will focus on the Oyster Restoration in New York Harbor by New York City Youth, including a presentation led by Murray Fisher, Founder of New York Harbor School and President of New York Harbor Foundation.

The day includes:

A tour of the island
A tour of the Brooklyn Navy Yard where students are growing oysters

The Island is not open on the weekends in October and is being opened exclusively for The Explorers Club. Once we have an idea of interest and numbers, we will have a final cost. However, the ticket cost will likely be in the $50-60 range. To sign up please contact Executive Director Matt Williams at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or 212-628-8383.
