| Detailed Description: | The Ju/'hoansi Bushmen of the Nyae Nyae, situated in the western Kalahari,(Namibia) are the only Bushmen in the world still living on their ancestral land, with rights to hunt traditionally, rights to game and game related products and the rights to tourism. The Nyae Nyae is a wilderness region renowned for its natural resources and is of international importance. It is also home to one of the worlds oldest surviving cultures, the Ju/'hoansi Bushmen. They still hunt traditionally and live off the land. The winds of change still blow in the Nyae Nyae and the Ju/'hoan people face an uncertain future.
In Ju/'hoan folklore everybody is born with wind. It is explained that when a person dies, their footprints are swept away by the wind and taken from the earth. The connection between land and the spirit of one's ancestors is inseparable in Ju/'hoan culture. Few people have as profound an understanding of their environment as the Ju/'hoansi Bushmen do. Theirs is the ability to read the landscape, while not leaving their footprints too visibly on anything.
David Bruce, (photographer and founder of the Ju/'hoansi Development Fund), /Ui Kunta, (Ju/'hoan Bushman) and Rachel Devas, (trustee), will present a lecture on the Ju/'hoansi Bushmen of the Nyae Nyae. The lecture will be based around the lives of the Ju/'hoansi Bushmen, their culture heritage, their future and sustainable development. /Ui Kunta, a friend of David Bruce and guest of the Ju/'hoansi Development Fund, will speak on behalf of the Ju/'hoan people in his own language, translated by David Bruce. David Bruce will also talk on the history of the region, the history of his photography and his life long collaboration with the Ju/'hoansi Bushmen. A collection of rare limited edition platinum prints will also be exhibited at The Explorers Club, some of which have been collected by art collectors around the world.
